Black Package | Extension

Victorian end terraced reconfiguration and rear extension, laced with new natural light.

Sheffield based Architectural Designers, Davey Stone Associates, collaborated with us on this traditional Victorian property in Sheffield. The aim was to brighten up the living space by creating an endless loop of light from the hallway to the sun terrace. What used to be a damp, unloved, utility and shower room is now a beautiful and functional dining area just off the kitchen. Flooded with light and purposeful shadows, creating dramatic lines and unique feel as
the seasons pass. We removed structural walls and opened the whole space up, to make sure the family is always connected no matter which area they are in.

Open shelving can be an absolute show-stopper, illuminating any cosy kitchen. Our client had their heart set on transforming the kitchen in to an open, clean and clutter-free space. The carefully selected, custom-
made cupboards and island, were brightly complimented with crisp white walls and marble countertops. Finished by a built in sink and island cooker, that perfectly balanced the beauty of the design and functionality of kitchen. The wooden open shelving with industrial cast iron brackets, under spotlights and draped fairy lights completed the beautiful kitchen decor plans.

The key to this project was to bring light into what was a dark and uninviting space. Removing the old outside walls and installing large Velux windows and folding doors brightened up the entire space from the kitchen, right through to the hallway. By incorporating the kitchen, snug, and dining area into one open plan space with instant access to the garden, we achieved the perfect balance between light and airy, and cosy and comfortable the whole family could enjoy.

The final piece of this project puzzle was to create access to an outdoor seating area level to the kitchen and snug. We wanted to avoid a seating area in the lower garden, 3m down outdoor steps. By building a retaining wall in an inaccessible garden, we created a perfect courtyard area to sit out and enjoy the sun with a morning coffee or evening glass of wine, but close enough to rush inside when the rain appears. Bright renders, cedar finishes, and green spaces work together seamlessly to create a tranquil happy place.

“We thoroughly enjoyed working with the client to transform and extend the space, which fulfilled our brief and excited the client. It is always a pleasure to work with Milestone, they brought the scheme to life exactly how we imagined it.” - Spencer Davey, founder of Davey Stone Associates.
